Reflective opalith queen sets are used to mark queen bees and keep track of their age and other characteristics during the queen-rearing process. The set includes colored plates for gluing on the backs of queens, allowing beekeepers to recognize and track the queens better and know the year of their birth. The set typically includes plates of different international colors for queen marking, along with an applicator stick and special glue for easy application.

Opaliths are used to mark queens and make them easier to find in the hive among other bees. The individual year of hatching of the mother was assigned to the appropriate color of the opal.
