The ANEL Beehive RFID Tags are innovative tools designed to revolutionize beekeeping record-keeping and hive management.
These tags work in conjunction with a mobile app to create a digital diary for beekeepers, allowing them to efficiently track and monitor their apiaries.
RFID Technology: The tags use NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, requiring no batteries and having no moving parts, ensuring durability and longevity.
Easy Installation: Each tag comes with a 3M adhesive pad on the back for simple attachment to hive surfaces.
Unique Identification: Every tag contains a unique ID, ensuring no two tags are the same.
Versatile Use: The tags can be painted without affecting their readability.
Voice Recording: The app supports a voice recording mode, allowing beekeepers to dictate notes during inspections while wearing protective gloves.
Comprehensive Tracking: Users can record data on colony size, honey stores, treatments applied, hive box counts, queen status, and more.
Multi-Apiary Support: The app can manage multiple apiaries and colonies.
Cloud Integration: All data is uploaded to the cloud and can be reviewed via the Anel portal on a desktop computer.
** Please note: This app is only compatible with Android devices and iPhones that are iPhone 8 or newer. **
Once installed, each RFID tag acts as a permanent digital ID for the hive. The tags are battery-free, waterproof, and built to last more than ten years. They can be affixed directly to any type of hive—wooden, plastic, or polystyrene—using the included adhesive pad or a screw, and can even be painted without affecting performance. To begin an inspection, simply hold your smartphone close to the tag. The ANEL app automatically opens and retrieves that hive’s record, including previous inspection notes, recordings, and data entries.
The ANEL App offers two main ways to input data:
Directly type information such as colony condition, brood and frame counts, feedings, and treatments.
Use the hands-free voice recording option ideal for use while wearing gloves.
The app captures your spoken notes and filters out background noise. These recordings are stored locally on your device and automatically sync to the cloud once Wi-Fi or mobile data is available. This allows remote access to all records through the ANEL Web App, where data can be reviewed, edited, or exported to Excel for bulk entry and offline archiving.
The system supports multiple hives and apiaries, enabling easy monitoring and traceability across operations. All historical data remains linked to each hive’s permanent RFID tag, ensuring continuity over time. For added convenience, recordings and saved logs can be accessed from a desktop computer at the end of an inspection day for efficient data entry and management.
There are no monthly subscription or upkeep fees. Beekeepers only purchase the RFID tags, which have an approximate retail price of $7 AUD each. The ANEL Beekeeping App for Android and iOS is entirely free to download and use, and integrates seamlessly with the web-based dashboard at app.anel.gr.
In summary, ANEL’s RFID Hive Inspection System combines durable NFC tags with a smart, cloud-connected app to let beekeepers record, track, and analyze hive activity efficiently—replacing paper logbooks with a reliable, touch-free digital solution.
